Dragon's Crown from Vanillaware & Atlus

So this game comes out this Tuesday for PS3 and PSVita. I've got it pre-ordered for PS3 but would have gotten the Vita version too if it was a cross buy game. As it is, it's a cross save game. It's a side scrolling beat-em up action game with RPG elements. You have 6 playable classes(Fighter, Elf, Wizard, Sourceress, Dwarf, Amazon) with skill trees to work on, something like Muramasa the Demon Blade and Muramasa Rebirth. Local Co-Op and online play as well. Supposed to be 20 hours of story per character. Seems to have great artwork and looks fun.

Looking forward to it, but the Sorceress and Amazon look ridiculous

Yeah they really do look over the top. I'm looking forward to playing as the elf, ranged + melee but you have a finite number of arrows so you have to use every skill and not burn up arrows on the first few baddies.

Agreed. The game itself looks decent though I probably won't bother playing it until it's a free game on PS+.

It probably won't ever be a free game...

If you like a game buy the damn game.

Almost as bad as the PC forums "I'll wait for a steam sale so I get it for $20."

No wonder much of the industry is trying to push pay to win gaming. You won't buy anything decent. If you don't like it then just don't buy it, but saying you think it looks cool but refuse to play it until it's free is insulting.

Well considering I've never played it, I can't say if I like it or not. What the hell is wrong for waiting for a sale? I've payed full price for plenty of games I definitely shouldn't have but for this one, I choose to wait for a lower price or PS+.

I'm picking up the Vita version, it looks like the perfect type of handheld game.
Ditto. The Vita doesn't have a good brawler, and based on the posted reviews and gameplay videos I'm looking forward to this one.🙂

I'll wait until it is on sale for $20-$30.

Sorry cmdrdedd lol

lol seriously though we need more devs to translate their games over here and we do that by buying the games. Luckily sales are looking good thus far(as much as I can tell anyway). I still wish it was a cross-buy game. I want it on PS3 for local-co-op but would like to have it on the road too, but I still have a few 3ds titles to play anyhow. One interesting thing is you don't get online play right away. You unlock it about 3-5 hours into the story and you have to unlock it for each character. This makes sure that everyone online has some idea of what to do and you won't be paired up with people who are total noobs.

Looking through the reviews it seems the lower ones take points off for the "sexual character designs" which to me is not fair. It's an art choice, but if the game is still quality one should be able to express that rather than give it a 6.5/10 lol.

My only issue with this game is... how fun is it when you're playing by yourself? It seems like a game that's mostly fun with others. :\

3rd party Cross-buy titles are going to be extremely rare, especially for smaller publishers like Atlus. They're already bankrupt as it is, so they can hardly afford to give away copies of the game.🙁

Everyone has their opinion on the art style. As far as I'm concerned I'm fine with it. It's a sword & sorcery game, everything is exaggerated. The warrior is a massive guy with a tiny head, the wizard has a beard even the most grizzled BOFH would be jealous of, and I guess one of the NPCs is so ripped that he's one big hunk of muscle with no neck. So who am I to complain?😛

The whole debate about it makes me wonder... what about objectivity? I have no qualms with mentioning the art style, as it's certainly a factor in the game, but does it truly affect the game? Ultimately, you could change that sprite to a "more universally agreeable form", and the game itself wouldn't really change (other than that sprite). I heard/saw a lot of people say, "well, it's just the reviewer's opinion", but how much of that is supposed to be based on the basics of what makes a game good? I realize that can be sort of subjective, but I think there are certainly universal faults that people can pick out. 😛

EDIT:

I thought I would add...

FYI. Dragons Crown for Vita has some pretty bad framerate issues past the first few levels when the screen gets busy.

When you go through a dungeon you find bones you can resurrect at town. These are AI controlled characters you can bring on quests. There is no voice chat online either 🙁
