My wife began playing this game months ago and to our surprise she really loved it. Normally she not a huge fan of turn-based gameplay, nor does she find games with a heavy Japanese influence on the visuals appealing--but this game just sucked her in. She loves capturing the little creatures and mixing them together to creature new monters, and I think the exploration aspect is fun for her as well.

My question is--what other games out there, for any system, are like this?

From what you just described, it is _exactly_ like that. My wife beat Pokemon Pearl not so long ago, too, and liked it quite a lot.

I don't think you mix monsters together in Pokemon though, unless that is something they added to later ones.

The Monster Rancher games by Tecmo? I don't know if there are any current iterations of the game, I have the original one for the PlayStation where it creates monsters based on random CD's that you put in the console.
