Dragon+ onboard sound question

Homerboy

Lifer
I just picked up a Dragon+ (being delivered today!!!) and I was wondering the sound quailty of the onboard chip versus my SB LIVE! 5.1. Is it as good? As compatable? Should I be worried of anything about it? Support EAX? Runs good in WinXP?

I'd like to beable to migrate the LIVE! to my wifes PC so she can get a little upgrade too...

TIA

If I were you, I would try it out. No I don't have the board, but whats it gonna hurt you to try it out for 1-3weeks with the appilications you use. If you can't tell the difference, go ahead use the on board sound, and then install the creative in your wifes puter. I am sure its more that capable to get mp3 play back right, gaming compatibility is all that I would worry about, but even then, it should work for all your games. BTW, the sound chip they use does have EAX, it might be EAX 1.0 and not 2.0, but if you can't notice a difference say-la-vee.

It's very good sound, about the same as my SB Live. It really is nice to have something integrated that is actually pretty good.

The sound is pretty decent if all you're going to do is listen to music.

But if you're gonna be doing any online gaming, or using the ingame voice in Counter-Strike, forget about it.

Actually, the main problem in the onboard sound is that you can't have any sound being played, while you try to use the mic for something. or else all you'll record is static and what you're hearing through your output. Does that make any sense? 😕

Anyway, imma give up on it and get an audigy or something cuz I can't communicate with my clanmates. 🙁

Everything works fine for me and I even gave up my x-gamer, I don't use the mic in games so I can't help there we use roger wilco and no problems. EAX support is fine for me but I use Win2000Pro.

decided to jsut use teh onboard... running like a champ. No MAJOR difference that I can see. Can't really turn it up too loud anyways (silly child) so no real matter. I'm just glad it stable etc... although WHY do they insist on that stupid "upgraded" mixer board. ugh.

I'm using the onboard sound and as far as I can tell they are about the same. The only difference I've noticed is that I can't get my speakers as loud as with my Live. I dumped the live though because it takes up a PCI slot and it doesn't run my games any better. I don't use mic online though so I can't comment on that.

Several issues were fixed in this release including improved mixer settings, gameport works correctly again, overall sound is better, eax mode sounds very clean now, and cpu usage is down a couple of percent from 6.30 in my testing. My single issue is the need to turn down the wave setting to 3/4 volume or less due to a popping sound at the beginning of mp3 playback.

1) It does not take up a PCI slot on certain cases. I have a slot above my AGP slot which has no PCI connectors so it fits there perfectly.

2) As a tip for anyone using winamp - if your rear speakers are not working, then chance the output from wave to directsound. That took me a while to figure out.

its the same as the one that comes in the kk266. its decent sound but i wouldn't say its up to par with the live. its also the same chip used in the hercules muse soundcard. but the dragon does come wit the perks of a live.
