I've setup the raid channels 3&4 for IDE, moved the jumper and enabled raid in bio. On startup the promise controller sees the harddrive, but when I go into Windows 2000 the is no drive there. The Via driver was uninstalled and reinstalled, but still not seeing the drive. Any clues out there? Thanks.

Have you loaded the Ultra 100 drivers? Without them, I don't think W2K will see the Promise Controller.

Opps, looks like nothing was sent on the last message. Too many things at once! Anyway, Yes, I've loaded all the proper drivers according to the manual. The Ultra 100 drivers have been loaded and unloaded and reloaded. The promise controller sees the drive and starts the bios properly, but Windows does not see the drive. I'm only doing this to look for lost files and I'll probably just move the drive to channel 2, dump the CD and poke around. I've had this up and running before with drives in all 4 channels, but after removing them, I could not put them back.

The MB is a good board. This is the only problem I am having and I believe it is pilot error rather than equipment. The search is half the fun.

Thanks!

I don't get it, do you want raid? It sounds like it in one way, but then not. raid requires the fastrack controlled driver at startup (f6),,,,,, two IDE's drives take the ultra 100 and the jumper set to non-raid. Maybe it's to early in the morning to think,, I'll go get coffee:>).........

Yes, that is true! In order to get IDE on the two raid channels the jumper must be set to IDE (2/3), but the raid option in CMOS must be turned ON. When the computer boots up the promise controller looks for drives and only activates the controller bios if it finds compatable drives attached. All of this works well ... until Win2K fires up with no drive in channel 3 (not using channel 4).

Well, I'm not running 2K, (I'm on XP), but I'm running a HD and a Zip drive on IDE 4 on the Soyo. (I meant to originally put it on IDE3, but I accidentally plugged it into 4 instead of 3). WinXP saw it fine, and it appears that you've done all the right things. Which leads me to one question that sounds dumb, but who knows....

Does Win2K see the drive if it's on one of the two main IDE channels? At this point, the only thing I can think of is that the drive isn't formatted right or something.
