it's complicated. they dubbed the series a few differant times. it depends on your preferance. i personally like the cartoon network dub with the bruce faulconer music because thats how i remember it as a kid, while others like the uncut eps with the original score.

i'm not sure which dub or music they use for the dvd boxes they sell. i'm not into the japanese voices. they sound like a bunch of little girls screaming. it was made for japanese people in the 80's. the music is much much differant. it has like an adventure tone like from dragonball, but they replaced it with all these action songs for american which i like better. its all up to you.

the american version - are freaking dragged out. they pause and stuff on the faces to make more episodes out of them. annoying as hell.

Subbed IMO is the best. Watching whatever dub/music combo Cartoon Network was using brings back warm fuzzy feelings from middle school though, so that has its place too.

They actually say different things in the American dubbed version. I've actually watched it with english subtitles turned on, with the dub, and it's surprising how different alot of it is.

More often than not, anime dubs are just plain horrible... with that said DBZ did a pretty damn good job on it, I thought the Goku personality was spot on not to mention his power level was OVER 9000!!! I saw both and liked both but in the end, I'll always prefer subs.

Usually, I prefer the subbed version. But I first saw DBZ in English, so that's what I prefer.

dbz dub makes me cringe, it's a combo of the bad voices and horrible translation/dialogue.

Subs are usually far better. The origional dubs where terrible.

Vegita: Ha ha ha ha, time to destroy this city.
His henchman: But wouldn't that be mean, you might hurt someone!
Vegita: Well, we are bad, but don't worry its sunday so nobody is in town. Im just destroying empty buildings!

Yeah... WTF where they thinking, its a violent show, don't try and make everyone nice and happy and act like fighting doesn't, you know, hurt people.

However, DBZ is bad anime. Much better exists. Though it did introduce me at a young age to the world of Anime, and it was far better then PokeMon.
