Dragon Age: Origin - PSN Outage

I want to start playing this game but, I cant get the updates since psn is down. Is there another way to get the update and install it on my PS3? Or could I start a game and once the network come back online not have to lose my character once the game updates?
 
Strangely, my copy of MK updated Saturday morning even with PSN being down. I believe some game updates works independently of PSN, because Blur updated as well since I hadn't played it for awhile.
