Dragon Age - How far along in the game am I?

[Spoilers ahead obviously]

...

So, I got all the alliances back and just got the Ashes from the Urn (and killed my first high dragon, woooo!). Besides a few sidequests, I think I just need to head back to Denerim. My question is, how far along am I percentage wise? I'm just curious because I have pretty much just used my main (rogue), alistar (as a tank), wynn (as a healer), and morrigan (as a fire/ice mage). Is there still time to try out the other party members I have been accumulating?

If you did all the plot stuff up to getting the Ash, you are around 75% done. All your offline party members level with you so you can try them out whenever you want. You have a pretty standard group make up. The only changeup is if you change your main's class.

Have you been talking to your party members in camp? Getting influence for their quests?

Just morrigan really.

Then you're going to miss a sizable chunk of the available quests. Each character has their own quest and back story, but you need to have enough influence with them to get a favorable ending. Or for the party member to survive, in some cases.

Morrigan was an awesome character, but, she doesn't really have a happy ending, no matter how you play it. Hope that wasn't a spoiler.

Just morrigan really.
Also, another spoiler:
she isn't the only person you can end up having sex with. There are 2 others in your party you can end up doing it (outside of your party, there are quite a few other instances as well, you've probably noticed).

Just in case that motivates you to talk to other people too - aside from the side quests that will open up, of course, but Bateluer already mentioned it. And they'll also help you unlock specializations (not all of them will teach you their own specialization, unfortunately)

Also, since they get bonuses the more each party mate likes you (Sten gets strength, Alistair constitution, etc.) it may be worth it for their sake to make them like you more.

When you go back to camp, you'll find all the partymates you've never bothered with are ready to level up (to your current level, minus one). They're ready to go after you level them up, it's as if they never missed any action.

I guess my only concern is who to switch people out with. With my group setup, I think Sten is the only person I could have tank besides Alistair and I guess I could try using Leliana instead of Morrigan. I just hope I can still do as well. It kind of sucks being a rogue in the game since you get 2 other people that are rogues. Whats the point really?

Funny, because theres 2 of everything.

2 Warrior DPS
2 Mages
2 Rogues
1 Tank

If you use Golem, he can DPS or tank, but I still think Alistair is the best tank.

I have to say in the long run, after playing through Awakening on my mage - they're ungodly. The AE DPS I can drop, or the tanking a Mage can do is ridiculous. Arcane Warrior + Battlemage + Spirit Healer (for rez) ...

Just, wow. Dragons only hitting me for 25 damage, I had a clump of about 20 regualr mobs only hitting me for 0-1 dmg.

If you are a fighter, there are 4 other fighters (Sten, Alistair, Dog, the dwarf, forgot his name. Also, there's the "secret character", but then you end up losing one of the fighters).

If you are a mage, there are 2 other mages (Wynne, Morrigan).

If you are a rogue... well, you've got that one nailed.

So it seems to me it doesn't particularly suck being a rogue - all other classes will give you duplicates, especially fighters.

Whats the point really?
Different mix of people will rely on different tactics. If you have your tactics all smoothed out and don't feel like experimenting or figuring out new/better tactics, then there's no point, really.

You can, alternatively, just let your party remain as is now. If you decide to give it another shot as a different character, you can try a different mix then. I've played it through using a mage (1st run) and a fighter (2nd run). I enjoyed the mage more in general, but the fighter was good as well. What's nice with being a mage is you can specialise in area of effect spells, have wynne do the same, and morrigan as well (her shapechanging is crap, so best to ignore it). When you've got two or three mages, you can have one case earthquake, another cast blizzard (or was it called ice storm?) and another cast fireball, then the blizzard fire counterpart - you get the idea, the enemies spend most of their time tumbling down and getting frozen, all while taking damage to all those Area of Effect spells. Most weak creatures don't survive, and the few that remain won't survive the next onslaught of your mages (lightning, ice/petrify + stonefist combo, etc), or they might not even be a match for your tank/s.

Arcane Warrior + Battlemage + Spirit Healer (for rez) ...
Hehe, yeah, I kinda hated being an arcane warrior - it just seemed to make the game so imbalanced in my favor - being a heavily armored mage that takes very little damage, carrying around 99 pcs of all kinds of lyrium potions... and of course, you've got party support as well (and if you make morrigan and wynne arcane warriors too...). Of course, I dressed up my mage with the best armors and massacred mobs by myself, just because it was fun to see.

I played as a mage and am now gathering my army as a rogue. I like playing as a rogue, as you can open chests and disarm traps without having to have Leilana along, who seems to always manage to get herself killed.

The rogue seemed really powerful early on, but as the enemies get tougher, my rogue seems to be only able to deal out damage to someone who is stunned or frozen.

somehow I've logged like 80 hrs in this game and I only have 3 factions with me. I'm human noble warrior and am trying to get the dwarven area completed. I thought this game was 60 hrs tops...

i'm at the end now. i must say i'm disappointed with my two-handed warrior. alistair is a better tank, does more dps, has just as many stun/knockdown abilities. if i were to play again, i'd either go rogue (because the number of chests i couldn't unlock, even from the beginning, is ridiculous), shield warrior (to have another tank), or mage (i didn't like that morrigan was a shapeshifter. i only used her shapes until she got good spells). i'd also do the quests in a slightly different order.

my biggest gripe is the number of stuns that enemies can cast - it's just insane.
why can a pack of wolves take down my group by pouncing on each one of them and do uninterruptible damage? same with ogres. why do genlock mages always cast crushing prison, which stuns and DPSes? why does mass paralyze my entire party for 1000 years when there are 50 ogres around? i also can't tell you how much i hated fighting the spiders in the dwarf area, *especially* the boss. i wanted to break something.

Positioning is key. Alistair can rush in pull aggro, they will paralyze him and surround him, get heals on him and then nuke from a distance. If they start to lose aggro on Alistair, just do a mass cc, Alistair won't mind he's also being nuked or ccd. Once you get the positioning down, the game gets easy. You can move your rogue behind each enemy 1 by 1 doing mass backstab damage. Also, Morrigan can pounce on stuff too if she transforms but no real need. I've almost never used her shapeshifting abilities.

I agree. I played through as a rogue as well and the lockpicking alone was worth it. Didn't use Leliana once. I was a dual-dagger wielding backstabbing machine. With a big pet bear. :)

Rogue with Archery, Stealth, Poison-making (for 'nades), Lock-picking, and Ranger fully leveled makes for one, imo, formidable AND fun character to play with.

Love the game but it is a bit unbalanced. Mages are overpowered.

Mages make it too easy. Rogues seem to be able to do more damage, but when you got a tank (that can also be a mage), all your other mages can crushing prison or that stasis type spell and aoe/kill everything else.
