hehe, so I am -loving- Dragon Age. I am playing a Dwarf Rogue and went mostly combat so far (level 9 I think). My party that I run with is Alistair, Moriggan, and the wardog (named Boru). I realized that I never have enough potions, so I have been teaching Morrigan some healing spells. I also havent trained in any range with my main character, nor level'd Alistair with it.

I usually let Alistair taunt/threaten and pull aggro, position my rogue in backstab position, and let moriggan and boru attack as they please (healing when necessary). It gets kind of rough sometimes.

I Just beat redcliffe by letting moriggan go into the fade by killing the mother of the boy. I mostly choose 'good' choices though, this i feel wasn't the most noble of things to do.

Do i need to be switching my characters out as I go to level them up? I have the 1/2 giant guy, and girl human rogue at my camp but I never play with them.... any other pointers anyone can give?

At some point you want to level up the remaining folks (and give them some of your spare loot), but you don't have to actually use them. Just put them in your party, level them (they're always put within a level of you), and return to camp. Maybe at least talk to them enough in camp/butter them up with appropriate gifts to get their personal quests, though.

Make sure you beef up Morrigan's ice and force line spells too -- excellent CC for later.

All characters lvl with you, they'll be a lvl or 2 behind if you never use them.

When you get Wynn in your party it should help with another healer in the team. I made her my main healer and Morrigan my backup for my main guy, with those 2 I rarely had any trouble clearing out a mob before the battle ended.

A CUN based rogue with Assassin and Bard was the class I tried my 2nd play through. When I made both Wynn and Mor keep up Haste for 2x the atk spd... Oh lawd, I breezed through the game on Nightmare.

Sounds like you're doing fine! You characters in camp will level up with you. I picked some base characters and mostly stayed with them. During the game, you'll be forced to choose others at certain points, so you'll get to use a variety no matter how you play.

Just as a general tip, the more mages in your party, the easier the game will be. I had three mages in my origional party, and I breezed through the game. Next time through, I'll add a bit more variety.

i started out as a mage which put the game on ultra easy mode, and there is an option to finish redcliffe without killing the mother or the boy...

I thought about that, but I thought leaving to go to the circle of magi would take too long and more chaos would ensue. It's the call I would make in RL. :)

When you start the game, the dog is like a "filler" team member. Get rid of him as soon as you have a 4th member.

Your healer should be the mage that comes from the Mage Tower. Go there as soon as you can, solve their problem, and take the healer with you. Morrigan is NOT a healer and you should not waste valuable levels on healing abilities for her.

The right thing to do is to go to the circle of mages and save the boy without sacrificing anyone.
Excusing the guilty is injustice. The right thing is to let her pay for her crimes.

Then you're gonna have to execute the entire chantry with her. After all, it was their baby-stealing-and-tossing-in-a-tower policies that started all this.

A mother will do anything to save her children. You can't fault her for that. Mercy goes a long way in that game.

You know I have played countless rpgs and I was surprised by Dragon Age difficulty early on, but once I got the hang of it , its not bad, then eventually becomes easy. I am currently playing a rogue on hardocore. Mind you, I dare say you picked the hardest class to play the game on. Mage is easy mode.

The reason mage is easy mode is this game is ALL about AE crowd control, ambushes and ranged For big boss fights. Thats it. My problem early on was trying to mix in a combination of tactics ala Baldurs gate and funny it doesnt work that way.

Tactics are semi important to set up right but really its about micro management.

Equip ALL of your chars with the best ranged items you can. You wont use ranged much but when you need to, its a lifesaver.

With your rogue, get Duelist asap, and mix in dual wield abilities. You want a good mix of stuns and quick dmg abilities ( stun-flurry-stealth ).

Debatable if you should level stealth high which lets you re-stealth in combat. If you dont then you need to kill 1 or 2 enemies quick then backaway and heal. Have a couple tanks always threaten/taunt.

With Morrigan dont bother with healing make her all damage ( cone of cold, blizzard, sleep+horror are good ). Sometimes bringing wynn is good shes all heals.

Also get Shale in your group asap - he is an incredible character.

Ive spilled enough beans, have fun!

They're all easy. If you want loot, then you need a rogue, but otherwise its the typical dungeon crawler.

Wynn = healer
alistair(other warrior) = tank
Morrigan = mage
the bard and the assassin = rogue (I was a rogue, so I didn't use those two characters)

Whatever character you are can replace any of those characters. Especially with 2 mages, both with forcefield and crushing prison, it is easy city. The only trouble I ever had was at redcliff defending the town square. Revenants, forcefield them when you need to heal, wait till he comes out, repeat.

Dragon, send your tank in, forcefield your tank and attack while hte dragon does no damage.

EDIT: Especially once your tank gets the taunt and all that good stuff, just send him in, forcefield him and throw an earthquake or ice storm spell. That'll take care of the mobs
