Played through the demo again and I have to say that I do see a lot of the concerns listed here, but people are acting as though DAO was some tactical masterpiece of a game. It wasn't, and gameplay seems pretty much the same as the first. Combat just seems faster than it was before.

Neither the graphics nor UI are terrible. They are just OK. You heard? Look up the screenshots or download the demo and make the decision for yourself. It's all out there.

Oh. I assumed you meant something already released...well, I trust BioWare to do a good job with TOR. It has the same lead writer as KotOR (Drew Karpyshyn), and they've made a point to have every line of dialogue voice acted, just like their single player RPGs are. (The devs have gone on the record saying the choice to fully voice a huge MMO was a stupidly ambitious one, but they did it anyways) I'd rather the art style not be so cartoony but it's probably the best route for the masses with low-end hardware that will likely end up playing it. You can still recruit NPC characters, although you only bring one into combat.

I'm wary of it being an MMO myself -- the last MMO I played was Runescape five years ago, and no MMO has interested me since -- but I'm not going to shoot the horse before it's left the gate. I'll buy it, play the one-month trial, and decide for myself. Reviews will mean nothing to me since they will inevitably evaluate it as an MMO, which I have no standard for.

Very disappointed with the demo; didn't like the art; acting (flem. seemed way out of character); graphics; game mechanics. Not sure there was much to like about the demo. I enjoyed dao (though mechanics were weak) and mass effect 1 AND 2; but this seemed like trash.

Yes, those two, which are the two main menus...

Even the other UI stuff is all big and blocky for better console use
You are aware that the options menu is completely optional right? There are shortcut keys on the PC for every one of those menus, except for manual saving and loading. Mass Effect 1 did it this way, and no-one complained about it then.

Wow I tried the demo yesterday and as much asI thought i'd hate it, I was damn happily surprised by the gameplay!

It's more fast paced and arcadish but overall it feels really fluid and cool.

Might consider it!

Not quite sure you can judge Flemeth as being out of character in this one. She takes an interest in the party, and agrees to help. However you must deliver some amulet first. Until we know what that amulet is for in the game story you really can't say she was out of character. Flemeth = immortal(somewhat), powerful, schemer.

Downloaded the demo from Steam without any problems, but was really shocked at the terrible controls. I am surprised anyone could play this demo and not be frustrated by the camera and controls. Right click to attack??? Why??? I have never played another RPG or shooter that used right click to attack. And worse, right click also moves you, so if you attack and miss your target, you move to where you clicked. Plus you cant pan the camera with the mouse, you have to do it with the WASD keys.

I might expect this from some lower level console developer, but from Bioware???
The game might actually play better with a controller, if you can use it with the PC. The controls couldnt be any worse.

I was immediately cautious when the first thing I saw upon loading was the EA logo, and the actual demo was even worse than my worst fears. Bioware, what happened to you---first abandoning KOTOR to make an MMO and now this??? Please dont screw up Mass Effect.

I have this pre-ordered but the comments here really have me worried. It seems that Bioware is going down the same path that Lucasarts went down...:(

The lack of a tactital view is really the big issue for me, that will be terrible if true with the final version. Also, I enjoyed the more 'gritty' style of the DA:O, and I feel that the game will definitely lose something if this is not present in DA2.

I didn't enjoy ME2 because of the 'dumbing-down' effect, and it's annoying that Bioware appears to be moving all their titles in this direction. Boo.

If you hold down right click you have much more control over the camera with your mouse.

Try the demo. I honestly don't see how people can say the combat has been ruined... It felt very much the same for me. YMMV, I guess.

You're not the only one, I found the controls confusing with having to right click. It just felt 'unnatural' using that button. :\

The attack button is the same as it was in the first game. It's also the way you give attack and movement orders in RTS games. So it's unusual for an RPG, but not outright unheard of.

Agreed and to be honest I don't get the 'dumbing down' comments. How is making a game more accessible to the general public dumbing down? I have played through both ME1 and ME2 multiple times. ME2 streamlined a lot of things that initially slowed down combat in the first game. Not too mention you could always pause and strategize to your hearts content in either game.

As far as DA2 goes we have another situation where the combat and gameplay itself is streamlined some, but it's pretty much identical to the previous version. The major differences I see from the demo? More action oriented and faster combat. Pause button is still there.

In the demo she seemed a wimp; the DAO she seemed in control; at times non-caring but in control.

I was also rather disappointed with the demo. The lack of an overhead view is something that really bothers me. The combat itself is definitely different but not necessarily a negative thing.

A wimp.....she turned into a giant fire breathing dragon! If that's what a wimp is then sign me up because I hate my commute and being a wimp would be great.
