I know that the comments on DA 2 have been generally negative, and I held off on buying the game.

It is now 50% off on Direct2Drive, if anyone is interested. I went ahead and bought it. I know most people on these forums panned it, but the reviews from the gaming sites were decent, so I decided to give it a try at half price. Dont figure it will be available much cheaper for quite sometime, and I did want to try the game eventually.

I'm still going to hold off on it until an Ultimate Edition gets released.

They'll probably only release a UE after all or most of the DLC has been released.

I might buy it eventually.

I recently browsed the DANexus for the available DA2 modifications and some of them are already "fixing" (or changing, call it what you want) some aspects of the game that from the start should have been "that way", similarly to how the modding community jumped on the tool to fix things up when Oblivion was released, history just repeats itself. I do like one of those mods I saw for DA2 which allows your party members to wear armors, which surprised me because I wasn't even aware that by default all the party members in DA2 always have the exact same armor on them and most of the armors you find in the game are almost useless since you can't make the teammates wear any of them. If I had bought DA2 and would have seen that I would have been quite pissed off. I'm glad that the community is on it already to fix idiocies like that.

I'm sure Bioware will eventually release a DLC to allow you to dress up your team members.

I would have thought Bioware better than that. Course, they did the same in Mass Effect 2. :(

Doesn't seem like 50% off is enough for DA2.

AFter playing Witcher 2 for five or so hours it makes DA2 look poor in comparison. Which is unfair because the game is decent, but not at Biowares usual standard. I'd suggest just getting Witcher 2 if you like RPGs. It does every single thing better.

Having played the demo of DA2, I was left with the impression that BioWare wanted to make combat more like the combat that features in Witcher 2 but also wanted to retain the multiple party members and different class approach that featured in DA:O and other traditional BioWare RPGs. The result being an unsatisfying hybrid that didn't appeal to the traditional audience and wasn't really a good implementation of an action-RPG combat mechanism either.

I too am enjoying Witcher 2 and appreciate that it retains a fair bit of complexity and, more importantly, it never holds the hand of the player.

DA2 isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Comparitively, DA:O was one of my favorite games in recent years. I still haven't beaten DA2, despite having dumped upwards of 250 hours into DA:O. I did get to Act 3 however, in DA2, and I can say the game is so brutally repetitive that it's impossible for me to recommend to anyone.

It's the same levels, over and over. The battles are hectic as all hell, but they're not satisfying in tactical sense. The cpu just keeps warping in enemies out of thin air to fight you, tactics be damned!

The Witcher 2 is a far superior game,DA2 is average at best(and that's with me being generous at best ) its also way below DAO level IMHO.

I did finish DA2 but have no urge to replay DA2,infact I would say one of the worst games from Bioware when you consider what their usual quality is like.

I hope they realize where they messed up with DA2 and hopefully improve with DA3(we can only hope).

At this point I have so little time to play games that I'm not too worried about the price, but I can't waste the time on what sounds like a mediocre game. I put 70 hrs into DA:O (in the span of 6+ months..), but in the end that felt kinda repetitive and uninspired and I never finished it. So now it's just taking up 12GB on my hard drive, on the off chance I'll go back and get through it:rolleyes:

I agree completely. The price for the game doesn't matter much to me, either, the real price is the time I invest in the game - Is it fun, or not?

If I'm to use 50+ hours on something, I better have fun doing it, or I'd easily find something else to spend my time on.

I didn't even bother finishing DA2, which is the first BioWare RPG I haven't played from start to finish since Baldur's Gate.

I was about to bite on this sale but your comment pretty much sealed the deal on me holding off. I've played all the Bioware RPGs to the end but if DA2 is that lackluster, I may was well wait.

Witcher 2 on the other hand, while damn hard, is really good so far.

Has there been any more DLC aside from the "Lost Prince" or whatever it was that came out at release?

Waiting for a $20 dollar ultimate edition or a $10 or less vanilla version. Before DA2, I always thought I could at least count on quality from Bioware, but now I wonder if hoping they learned from their mistake is even reasonable.

Also waiting for the gold/platinum edition with all DLC for under $20. If waited long enough I might just skip it if there are other better rpgs comes out and I won't have time for it.

I agree 10000%. It also helps massively to punish/reward devs for bad/good games, respectively. If DA2 sales are hugely off of DAO sales, and fell off much quicker, it will help show that the design/direction/production of the game was done poorly.

Luckily, what seemed to be a bit of a drought in PC games looks to be filling in nicely right now, with Witcher 2 and Fable 3 dropping, and heaps of interesting things on the horizon for 2011. Skyrim, Diablo 3 (hopefully no later than this time '12), Rage, Borderworlds, etc, there's bound to be gold in some of them.

What's even worse than buying a really disappointing game is supporting really disappointing games with sales numbers.

I would say DA2 is only worth $10 as it is right now. I wouldn't buy it until it has an ultimate edition as cheap as DA:O Ultimate is now.

I have been playing several hours now. I kind of like the game. Granted it is not as deep and complex as the older Bioware RPGs. However, since I just started a new job, I am getting enough "complexity" at work. Mindless killing is not a bad thing after a frustrating day in the lab!!

Seriously though, the combat is fairly repetitive, and I dont like some of the controls, mainly that you cannot pan the camera with the mouse. However, I do not regret buying the game. Agreed, I could have waited longer, but I figure by the end of the year there will be a lot of other games that I want to play that will be cheap.

I would grant that Witcher 2 is probably a "better" game, but somehow the franchise doesnt appeal to me. I may pick up the first game on GOG if it is still 5.00.

I bet your attitude will change a bit once you hit 15 hours in or so.
