Dragon+ 5.1 adpter: could connecting it fry the cpu? My 1900+ died

I bought some Z560's and had to hook up the 5.1 adapter to connect the rears and they worked fine then a few hours later my cpu was dead! I connected the card when the power was off and disconnected and nothing was shorted out. I tested the speakers and they all worked fine so I opened up Morpheus and went to bed. When I got up my monitor had no signal so I checked the usual stuff then replaced the cpu with an older one and the comp posted fine. WTF caused this? could the card connection do that? The cpu fan was running just fine when I opened the case to see what the problem was.

Mine works fine with 1600+. Is the chip visibly fried? Are you OCing it at all? If not, I would try to get an RMA from AMD. Maybe the chip just fizzled and it is unrelated to the addition of the 5.1 adapter.
