i was at thermaltakes website when i saw the dragon 478. "PLASTIC CLIP save your potency as installing" is listed as a feature of this heatsink :D. minced words aside, i wonder if this thing is any good. i haven't seen any reviews of it, but it has a lot of copper and a fast fan. to me, the heatsink looks something like a copper arkua. anyone have any info on the performance? i'm looking to get a northwood soon, and i'm certainly interested in p4 cooling options (though the volcano 7+ is probably going to be a better solution than the dragon 478. the dragon looks like it will be loud).

hey edipisreks,

i'd personally recommend staying away from the volcano's. they tend to run really loud, and not give the best cooling out there. if your board can support it and you got a few extra dollars to spend, i'd recommend going with the alpha 8045 for about $30. if u want to either go the cheaper route or your mb doesn't support the alpha, i'm personally going with the svc gc68. this will run u something around $15-20. if you want links to either of these, just ask. :)

well, this is for a p4 system that i haven't built yet, and the volcano 7+ (which has gotten really good reviews and has a 3 position adjustable fan) looks to be the best solution outside the swiftech mcx462 for the 478 pin pentium 4. to the best of my knowledge, neither the alpha or the svc will fit a pentium4 motherboard. i know all about athlon cooling (in fact, it is something that i have spent a lot of time and money on), but not about p4 cooling. the new dragon looks much better than the old athlon version.

ahh... i somehow completely missed it was for a p4, eventhough u mentioned 478 all over ur message :p.

i dun have any experience with p4 coolers myself either, tho i'd probably like my next upgrade to be a p4. lemme know what u think about the volcano 7+. it'd be nice to know that there's another pretty good hs company out there, as thermaltake hasn't exactly proven themselves to be the best with their past products.
