Is there such a thing as a "high end" mechanical pencil? I will be doing some major graphing in my next math class and I would like nicer refillable mechanical pencil.

I was hoping for one with spinners and a fish tank inside!

You might be able to get one with one of those filled bits with little plastic fish in that move about. The kind of souvenier pens, if they do pencils like that.
Not sure about the spinners though, but what about one of those windmill/fan things? Sometimes they are made to go on pencils I think.

There is, but what's the point? Just get a decent metal or thick plastic one that's refillable and comfortable.

Pentel Sharp, 0.5mm. I have one that I've had for YEARS. They work beautifully. The only problems are the erasers don't last long and the little metal cap that covers the eraser tends to get lost. The fix for that is, throw away that little metal cap and use a white vinyl block eraser (DO NOT use art gum, pink pearl, or kneadable erasers. White vinyl is THE BEST for drafting, graphing, writing, etc. on normal paper. It erases well and doesn't tear up the surface of your page). You can find them at Office Depot, Staples, and most other office and art supply stores.

I don't know what all this pencil talk is about, but I'm hoping the Niners pick Vernon Davis instead of AJ Hawk. We'll see though.

Agreed. That's a great pencil. I personally like the Zebra ... crap, don't know the model. It's been rubbed off the casing. Anyway, it's a metal mechanical pencil, very sturdy. I'm a big fan. But for drafting, I've heard the above is spectacular (I've used my friend's and it is very well made).

have a Koh I Noor mech. pencil that feels great, has nice heft, and works wonderfully. I am pretty snobby when it comes to pens/ pencils, so I go through a lot of models before I find one I really like. Try getting some harder lead as well, it will help w/ sudging etc. Go to an art/ drafting store, they should have plenty to choose from

btw, when you get a nice drafting pencil, it ceases to be a "pencil". You ge to call it a "lead holder" and feel elite.

Staedler pencils are very good in my opinion. Been using them for drafting all year and they've worked great.

I used to love the Pentel 205, but they changed to a cheaper, lighter weight plastic for the body about 10 - 12 years ago. Haven't been the same since.

NOTE: I haven't used one in nearly 5 years, now. It was purchased in '97 at my college bookstore. I was sorely disappointed and never bothered to replace it after losing it a couple years later. Couldn't speak for the newest models.
