I just finished watching season 4 over the weekend.

Overall, seasons 2 through 4 were really well done with David Tennant as the Doctor. I really missed Rose but I guess new companions keep the show fresh.

What I found odd was how fast they rushed the conclusion of season 4, and effectively the 10th doctor (I know he lives a little longer into a few more post-season episodes). It seems like chasing the Master could have been most of a season, but they "killed" him off really quick. Then the finale with the Darkness coming could have been stretched into several more episodes, but even that was rushed to conclusion.

So speaking of the Darkness finale... something wasn't quite right with Rose's return. You can see her trying to get the Doctor's attention in a few episodes, but in ways it seems she is "trapped" somewhere or maybe not of this plane. But in the end she's just hopped back through the parallel world. Very anti-climactic. What I was really hoping was that a piece of her spirit was lost through time due to her staring into the Tardis, and we were going to solve that rather than this "oh hey end of universe is coming, I'm actually not important I'm just here for the finale that brings all the characters back from 1 last episode." And I wonder what happened to her... not that much time had passed since she was playing Rose, but in her return she looks like she just checked out of meth rehab.

Netflix doesn't have season 5 available yet but I don't think I'm going to like this 11th doctor.

I think Billie Piper really slimmed down so she could play a call girl in her new series.

And I agree the two part finale seemed a little rushed but I just assumed it was because all the old characters they brought together had availabilty and they moved the finale along quickly so their limited screen time would not be as noticeable.

Watch this deleted scene, it makes the whole ending of the series better IMO.

It takes a while but Matt does grow on you.

This.

I was skeptic about Matt Smith's Doctor after I finished watching the 4th season and the specials. I thought there's no way this guy can fill the shoe of Christopher Eccleston's (dark but determine) Doctor and David Tennant's (smart/fast talking/enthusiastic) Doctor.
After a few episode in the 5th season, he proved me wrong. By the end of season 5, I completely see him as the new (chaotic/determine/enthusiastic) Doctor.

What bumps me is that, at least I felt, there was no super standout episode in Season 5 like in the previous seasons:
Season 1: Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Season 2: Girl in the Fireplace
Season 3: Blink
Season 4: Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead

And they were all written by the same guy, Steven Moffat, who took over Season 5. Maybe I was expecting the whole Season 5 would be like those episodes.

Love Karen Gillan/Amy Pond as the new companion. Don't like Rory much because the character feels a lot like Mikey Smith.

I am still looking forward to the Season 6. Can't wait to see the wild west episode.

I would say that part of why you have these amazing standout episodes in each of the previous seasons was how much better they were than the average. In my opinion, season 5 was just so much better across the board than previous seasons. The finale was amazing, and the only episode that I really couldn't stand was Amy's Choice.

"blink" was beautiful, imo. Also a big fan of "Silence in the Library/Forrest of the Dead"
"turn left" was great and really opened my eyes to catherine tate as strong cast member (till then i sort of felt she was annoyingly self-entitled and whiney but it only underscored her acting). The impossible planet and it's sequel are great to watch around halloween. The last christmas special with Ten (i think it's called "the next doctor") had me laughing pretty hard.

So i'm partial to the previous doctor, but i think this next season will be good since matt smith will be more comfortable (and so will his writers) in the role. I would enjoy nothing more than to change my opinion that the new doctor is better than the last. Also, Karen Gillan is crazy hot, probably cause of the accent.

Obligatory: 'You must be into boys if you liked Karen's flatness...blablalba"

Season 6, two part premiere in less than a week. Very excited! Looks like River Song is going to be a lot more recurring this series. Not a single complaint, liked her in ER.

I like the River Song character, and am glad to see her role being expanded. My favorite episode from the 5th season has to be the pilot. While the bad guy is sort of a monster of the week, there are hints to very dark things to come, and the introduction of Amelia Pond is pretty interesting and powerful I think.
