LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - Horton may not give a hoot, but Yertle the Turtle and the Lorax are looming large in Lancaster.
The beloved literary characters, who took shape on the pages of Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, are being cast into towering bronze statues that will grace a park dedicated to all things Seussical.

The Seuss Heritage Park and National Memorial is scheduled to open June 1, 2002, in the downtown Quadrangle in Springfield. Mass., Geisel's birthplace.

A.R.T. Research Enterprises, a Lancaster foundry, is making some of the larger statues in the 30-piece collection, including the 14-foot Horton, a nearly 12-foot Thidwick the Moose and a 7-foot-tall Cat in the Hat.

Geisel died in 1991 at age 87. His stepdaughter, Lark Diamond-Cates, designed the sculptures.
