i respool about once a month during the season.
I have been getting tips on line and alot of people have recommended the "lite" version of yozuri hybrid.
I never tried the chatterbaits but i did get a few for xmas.

ahh to be out on the water again!

Thanks for the tips on line. I try to carry 3 rods/reels - one light, one medium, one heavy in terms of line and action.

np:)
i spooled up with yozuri back in 2005 and never looked back.
I havent personally tried the "lite" version but it is supposed to be more supple.
the standard yozuri in 12lb has straightened worm hooks on me ...its just unbelievably strong and next to no stretch...the downside of it (for me) is it almost feels metallic at times.

I use P-Line fishing line exclusively. I'm more of a saltwater fisherman than fresh. Senkos work in saltwater pretty well too near jettys and rockwalls on the water.
For no-stretch line I just use braid when I'm fishing off my kayak.

Texas rigged, weightless. 2/0 hook. I don't think I need to buy any this year; last season was unfortunately delayed.

It's funny, I was just talking about this with my son about 2 hours ago, then I see this thread. :) It's a few months here though til Bass season - 3rd saturday in June. Trout opens April 1. I'll probably spend a few hours trout fishing, but not much more than that. What I'm really looking forward to is crappie season. As soon as I dare, well, maybe 2 weeks after "as soon as I dare", I'll get my boat motor ready for this season. Two seasons ago, I hoped to extend the season a little bit. Hard frost one night. Some of the water in the motor froze up; not completely, but enough to put a small crack in the block and cost me nearly $6k in repairs.

And the other thing that I'm really looking forward to: heading to Florida and taking a couple of the kayaks with me. Gonna give fishing in the ocean a try down there.

For what it's worth, the lighter the line, the bigger the fish :) Fish aren't *that* stupid. "Oh, look, a worm with a really long string hanging out of its butt. Looks scrumptious."

Maxima Ultragreen is what I like. I use it for the tippet of my fly line.

By the way - flyfishers > gearchuckers :p JK

18 pound striper > anything flyfisher catches. ;)

Thanks for the tip. No matter what I could never get the hang of flyfishing, probably not enough practice. Now a baitcaster I can drop in a bucket 30 yards away.

You'll note my reference above to taking the kayaks to Florida this year.

for starters

This is something that I wish for (I wouldn't catch Salmon sharks in Florida though; these were caught in Alaska. Salmon shark meat is delicious! something along these lines
video of catching sharks from a kayak here

or, maybe a thresher shark from a kayak?
also seen here

If that's not good enough,
Yikes!!
here
here
how about catching a marlin from a kayak?

If you go fishing from a kayak and catch even one fish over 2 pounds, you'll be hooked for life on fishing from a kayak. 1000 times more relaxing. You'd be amazed at how much even a 2 or 3 pound bass can drag around a kayak, let alone something of substantial size.

Fly fishing? That's a granola sport for sissies. ;)

Don't think so Doc. Ever fished for Steelhead? Ever stand in the middle of a river in 20 degree temp scouting for an elusive Steelhead? Or try to present a fly to mimic the natural. Not easiest thing to do. Anyone can throw a hook and a worm into the water but few can throw a fly with grace.

By the way, you're just jealous ;)

But yeah, I can't believe those people catching those fish on a kayak. Fuck that. I wouldn't want to catch a shark then have to pull it up on the kayak.

And, by the way again, not that I've experienced it, yet, Tarpon on a fly is supposed to be a glorious experience.

A few guys I fish with went to Ketchikan Alaska for some Salmon shark fishing. I think the video you posted is from the same guys. I recognize the the voices though.
Edit - They are the same folks.

And yep kayak fishing is one of the most amazing experiences ever. I regularly fish along the California coast and one of my favorite spots is in Carmel. The water depth there drops off like a 1000ft in like 500 yards from the shore. Lots of whales, sea otters, sea lions etc to see. Its really amazing when you get surrounded by boiling sardines/anchovies and I've experienced that a few times.
I plan to take my kayak to Mexico next summer or so and fish for all sorts of gamefish about a mile out. I can't wait.

The whole point is to tire the shark. You just let it tow you around until it gives up. These guys in the video ate the sharks that they caught and according to them they were delicious.
As far as strong fish are concerned, I've caught umpteen bat rays well over a 100lbs in the San Francisco bay. When you get one of those, they act like a freight train and keep on pulling your line out at 25% drag. Though its fun to have them tow you around. Though it doesn't take too long to tire those out.
