The obvious part? You don't buy kids a game like Manhunt 2 just like you don't take them to see a movie like Saw IV. Morons.

Well the argument was actually 17 year olds who can legally buy the game. It didn't really mention kids younger than that. Dr. Phil even mentions that anyone who plays the game and commits some kind of violent crime was probably already predisposed to that type of behavior anyway.

Until these moron public figures got all outraged, I'd never heard of this game. Now that I've heard of it I think it looks cool and I might get it. Hope Dr. Phil and whatsherface get a kickback for their good marketing.

What's funny is that it's a very mediocre game that's only going to sell decently because people hype it up like this.

I thought that Dr. Phil had a reasonable point of view. He advised parents to keep their kids away from it. Nothing wrong with that. Parents should know what their kids are doing.

The people that bother me are the ones calling for banning of a game because they're too lazy to watch their kids.

I'd like to be able to buy that AO version of the game if I want to. It's too bad that every copy was censored for the sake of big box stores.

They should have made two versions. We have rated and unrated movies. Why not video games? I don't have a Wii, but if i did, i'd probably pick this game up solely because everyone is hating on it (much like sully said).

It wasn't censored, it's just that Sony, for example, does not publish AO games, and Nintendo is probably against it as well. The government in the United States did not do any banning, subsequently, no censoring took place.

You really think that is the case, rather than them cutting things out of the game to get to an M rating just so the big box stores will carry it? It's all about money...they don't want to make AO games solely because they won't sell as many copies.

It really is the case. Microsoft and Sony had both already commented that they were not going to allow AO games on their consoles. I believe Nintendo joined the boat as well.

So the only place they could have really put it was on the PC. That's quite a limitation in today's market where multi-platform releases are the norm. They could still do an unrated release, but it could only be used on the PC.

In addition to that, the other argument of selling locations would also be limited. The point is that they'd be releasing a game available to only one platform, and only available for sale through them and only to countries that wouldn't ban it like the original manhunt. It's simply not profitable to have an unrated release.

It's amazing that they had to modify the game to avoid an AO rating (may have been a publicity stunt, but based on what I've heard their solution was, I don't think that was the case anymore) when the same stuff would only warrant an R rating for a movie.
