I wonder what the writers will do to Dr. Burke... :QGrey's Anatomy Star Getting Fired
Grey's star Isaiah Washington may be losing his job after a violent and homophobic outburst on set
The National Enquirer broke the story last week that Isaiah Washington, who plays Dr. Preston Burke on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, started a fight with the other resident dream boat, Patrick Dempsey. The story goes that Washington is jealous of Dempsey's sexy image, as he feels he's entitled to the same kind of attention. Washington became agitated before shooting a scene because he had to wait for co-star T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) to arrive to the set. When Dempsey told Washington to "pick on someone (his) own size," Washington flew into a rage, and not only pushed Dempsey but grabbed his throat.
As more information leaks from the set, it has been revealed that Washington also made an unacceptable gay slur about Knight, telling Dempsey, "I'm not your little lovely human like (Knight)."
Knight, who is an open gay man, is now receiving a barrage of media attention about his sexuality. The cast and crew of Grey's is reportedly divided over Washington's actions.
According to In Touch, execs from the show are considering recasting the role of Dr. Burke. They have already met with three possible replacements: Bill Bellamy (Fastlane), Boris Kodjoe (Soul Food) and Eriq LaSalle (E.R.).
While it may be unusual for a primetime show to replace the actor playing a lead character
- especially since Grey's is frequently called "the biggest show on television" - sacrifices must be made to retore happiness to the set, and to keep up the quality of the show.
