If it were paper's "official" take, that would be published by "The Editorial Board".

The original article was posted by a Joseph Epstein. Thus, it is to be assumed that what he wrote is his own personal opinion.
The opinion section is only the opinion of the writer writing the piece, and not the usual staff reporting. In fact, because it is opinion, it cannot be per se journalism nor is it held to the same standard as a usual article.

On the same opinion page is a letter from a reader expressing her contrarian take on the commentary of Epstein.

While it isn't the opinion of the WSJ, they still felt it carried sufficient merit to warrant publishing. Do you think they publish every editorial submitted to them? While I appreciate puplications wishing to maintain a fair and balanced perspective, they should still maintain high standards. If they don't, they should be called out, as should any paper claiming to maintain rigorous ethical standards in publishing.

This administration is so scandal ridden right wing media will look for any little thing to start the Biden pile on

This is just the beginning. I would love to see the list of the author's op-eds during the most corrupt administration in history

Exactly this. I'm going to guess that WSJ gets dozens of 'editorials' sent to them every week about how we need to investigate aliens at area 51, and that Pelosi and McConnell are members of a subteranian reptile race. But they don't feel the need to publish those (as far as I know). But they decided this was an issue that warranted public discussion, and worthy of limited published space. They're not facebook; they can't just say "it's opinion!" and walk away from any accountability.

Well, the fact that the WSJ chose this missive to publish isn't too strange considering the WSJ editorial board has consistently been on the side of conspiracy theorists and science denial, such as denying climate change, bad effects of acid rain, pushed the Birtherism bullshit when it was "popular" with repubs, etc., etc.

This "opinion" just fed into what the WSJ's leadership actually believes and pushes in its editorial pages. And I'll wager they're grateful that this trash just happened to show up at a most opportune time, and that one of their own didn't have to write that bullshit.

It appears as though Kyle Smith has no self-awareness given that he has chosen to voice his opinion in a "publication" like the National Review, which is objectively garbage.

Tucker calls Dr. Jill Biden illiterate among many other things.

These people are just human garbage. Tucker, his fans. The whole lot.

LOL, this from a guy who acted like a smitten cheerleader for a man who couldn’t read his PDB unless they put pictures in it.

Code words?

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." - Joe Biden.

Because a black man cant speak properly, be well dressed, free of drugs and wear a suit. Right? Thats exactly what Joe is out right saying, but that is perfectly ok apparently. Lots of cuck being thrown around. Clear example of it. Obama is one of the most revered people in the black community, and this got a 100% pass. People have lost their livelihood over much less. But hell, lets not ask about this comment at all, lets elect him president.

yeah, let's spend more time worrying about such comments and just ignore the other guy that has said about 200 worse things for every thing that Biden has said (and actually believes such things), oh and has raped over 2 dozen women. Yeah, let's harp on Biden saying careless things and elect a proven, proud, rapist piece of complete human garbage.

Yeah, that's a valid debate right there.

In education it is very common to refer to people with doctorates in education as 'Dr. Smith' or whatever.

Again though, it's not like any of the WSJ/Tucker Carlson/Ben Shapiro idiots actually care about this issue and they don't care about being shameless hypocrites about it. None of these people are engaging in good faith and they have no plans to start. They had no problem calling Seb Gorka 'Dr.' for years, now suddenly they are in a tizzy about non-medical doctorates? Of course not, they just see a chance to grab attention by picking a pointless culture war fight.

Of course.

My father had a PhD and was a professor, he was called Professor or Dr. sometimes.

In education it is ......

You have to consider that the the GOP movement has been attacking educated people for decades.
"The elites"
"Liberal college campuses"
"The Scientist who are all wrong because (insert misinterpretation of theory)"

I've already used this story to tease some folks who earned their Doctorate.
Sure you played with a rover on Mars....but have you ever delivered a baby?

Good call. My dad has a PhD in Nuclear Engineering. I’ll have to tell him the WSJ says he can’t go by Dr any more.

Well, all this time i just assumed she was an actual medical Dr., because the media often refers to her as Dr. Jill Biden.
Generally speaking if you are not a medical Dr., and you go around referring to yourself as a Dr. then you are probably an insecure phony.
That would be true for men or women or transgenders, before any of of the super-sensitive woke members of this forum get triggered.
You can get a PhD in Archeology. Does that give you the right to call yourself a doctor? Of course! Do you look like a jackass in doing so? Hmmm...

That's your own fault for assuming that. My pops was a tenured political science prof at a small state university. His official title was Dr.

Sebastian Gorka, a right wing sycophant who worked for Trump, goes by Dr. Sebastian Gorka when he appears in media. He has a PhD in poli sci. You don't hear them complaining about him.

We all know what this is. This is a hit piece on Biden for two reasons - she's a Biden, and she's a woman. He calls her 'kiddo' in the op-ed. It's so blatantly misogynistic it's unreal.

You've clearly never taken part in any academic endeavor above high school, or you'd know that what you just said is dogshit-level fucking stupid.

Do you look like a jackass in writing the above reply? Of course! Doesn't mean you can't also probably be an insecure phony.

Have you mentioned that to Jordan Peterson?

In any case, it's very clear that opinions vary hugely on that question, partly depending on national culture and very much depending on context.

What _does_ make someone look like a jackass is writing a national newspaper op-ed to make a big deal out of it, at a time when there are rather more important political issues going on.
