symptom Old Supermicro P4ds8, Memory is intencely slow (250 Mbps), The MB uses 1800 spd ddr and has 2100 spd installed and is good.
This thing is so slow that even the bios and fast memory check takes over a min (2gigs).
The bios memory settings are auto and manual, In manual there are only a few settings and I have them as tight as possible and it only allows CL 5 or 6, In auto or manual it benches the same. (The only memory settings to adjust are the main 4 CL, Ras, Cras and forgot the last)
Ive tried looking into programs that would allow manipulating the bios or boot settings but 99% of them cant see the bios or chipset, Or can only read the name of the chipset mfg, I cant even get anything to read what the memory timings are once its booted.
My question and last resort for you old Bios gurus....
There are two other setting in the bios chipset settings and they are,
Auto DQS setting support (enable disable)
DQS sellection (00-??) set at 16 as default.
Ive done a few days of googling DQS, I understand most of its job, But nothing explained the direct corrolation to the DQS selection, What does increasing and decreasing do directly.
Does The DQS sellection adjust how many lines read in the memory ID durring its first read/set, Or is it and actual timing setting for memory?
If its an actual timing setting for memory is higher or lower setting tighten/speedup memory?
Your help and links would be apreciated.
