DPAD: run all rigs off of network shared HDD?

Is it possible have of your DPAD crunchers running off of one hard drive that is shared over a network? All you would have to do is give each machine a folder on the shared HDD and put a shortcut in the startup folder. This way only one hard drive will be running (using power, wearing out, ect).
Would you have to map it as a network drive?

Theoretically - yes.

Each would have to operate in its own folder - with separate results files. Otherwise, you'd corrupt the results - but other than that - should work fine.

You'd probably want to map it as a network drive. You then could use any of several third-party tools to combine the results into one file for sending. 🙂

OV - you forget the scenario of using a network-enabled stripped-down Win98 floppy. It'll work just fine. 😉

Very intersting!

I've been thinking of something like this...but linux...damn it's a lot of work getting something done in linux!!! :Q

So DanC...you say a network-enabled stripped-down Win98 floppy...any idea where such a floppy could be found...? 😉...maybe in my mailbox...from you...😀

WOW Thanx guys!!! 😀

I've checked it out and I think it's what I've been looking for!!!

Dan, that network boot disk is awesome!!! I'll give it a go and see what happens!!!

This should be inluded in Overkillers guide! 😉

who in the what now?

as i have no experience with this could someone write up a little blurb on this w/ an appropriate title and then PM it to wolfsraider 🙂

*I posted this in the DPAD Forum as well*

Hope someone can help me with this...

I'm trying to run DPAD on a pc without a harddrive...with a network boot disk found here

I got everything working...giving the pc a ip address, mapping a drive...but when I try to run muon, I get: This program cannot be run in DOS mode.

Can't muon run in DOS...or is there some way to make this work...
