Couldn't help but notice the dump aphex. Nice job!

The "best" transfer of 6.468957 indicates you're not using sampleresults.

In your config.txt file - it should read:

Sample file URL: http://stephenbrooks.org/muon1/samplefiles/solenoidsto15cm_100.txt

If it's not there - or has the "bad URL" that was in there for awhile - you're not getting the latest optimizations, which can account for the lower transfers.

On the other hand - there are those who would (correctly) point out that taking one's "own path" may reveal combinations that will go beyond the best so far - so either way you're right. ;)

Thanks! Well all the computers from the dump have no network connection and were using the 'bad' url more than likely....

I'll check and update them tommorow :)

Question for you guys.... If i take that sample file, rename it to results.dat and replace it on all the rigs, it should work better, correct?

I would think so...

In a certain way, yes. But u will lose all the results u crunched so far in your results.dat. It's better to just edit results.dat (with notepad) and copy and paste the latest sample file in it and save again. By that u can keep your own results AND have the latest and best ones. That's what I did on one of my machines as it just refused to download the sample file. :D

I believe you are able to copy across the Samplresults.dat file onto them, and leave your results.dat file alone :)

You also can merge both files into one, and remove dupes with MuonMonitor.

Got a DPAD question for you all: for running DPAD on a non-networked computer, you just copy the results.txt file and send it from a networked computer?

Yep :) That's exactly what I do on a couple of machines at work. Luckily mine are on the network, just the machines i'm running DPAD on don't have net access (they're in Theatres and they don't need net access, but do need network access) so I just copy them across the internal network to my machine and upload them :)

Almost. You'd want to use results.DAT - if you use results.txt, you'll be propogating dupes. Results.txt is your working file - .dat is your optimizations.

don't copy results.dat; that will cause dupes to be uploaded :D

it's results.txt you want... we swears, we swears!

just be sure to move results.txt and NOT to copy it (that may be why Dan was saying you'd get dupes)...

yeah i sneakernet results.txt to a computer that can run zone alarm while uploading dpad (windows nt and 2k boxes) and just leave results.dat on the individual machines. also for results.dat i just use wordpad and append the newest sample files to the end of results.dat as said to on stephen brooks website.

// Sample Results Files
What? Sometimes I produce files called this. They contain a selection of results, including many of the best ones, from the current stage of the project. If you add them to your database, Muon1 will be able to use this information to produce better designs.

How do I use the sample file? Decompress it if necessary and either use it to replace your results.dat, or edit your results.dat in WordPad and append the new results (being careful not to merge lines). The latter option will mean Muon1 can use your old results as well as the downloaded ones, so is a better choice.

Why doesn't this file just contain the top 100 results? The very best results at any one time in the project can be quite similar. It is better for the algorithm not to be swamped by repeats of the same good result, which can drown out other possibilities that still need to be explored.

With all due respect... z - you're smoking crack. :Q

DO NOT copy results.txt - it is your working files (the one's you're presently crunching, and haven't uploaded yet.)

Results.dat is what you want to copy from machine to machine. If you copy results.txt, you're going to have LOTS of dupes, which will be stripped out - a waste of time and resources.

Unforgiven explains it well. Just remember never to mess with results.txt :)

gah!

I don't think you understood Redviffer's first question :D

And for the record, anything written to results.txt has ALREADY been crunched. Everything in results.txt is pending submission. Everything in results.dat HAS been submitted.

And like I said, DONT copy it... MOVE it (RESULTS.TXT)

I may be smoking crack, but you forgot your reading glasses (with all due respect):laugh:

My bad. OK... I'm off crack now. :Q

Yes. You'd want to copy the results.txt from the non-networked computer - over to one that is.

lol@me.

edit:

Where I got messed up is that originally, I was talking about use of the "optimized" results.dat to obtain better transfers. I assumed we'd stayed "on topic" - heheh. ;)

Just took another 15mb dump about 2-3 hours ago....

Anyone know how long before it usually shows up in the stats on stephens site?

Yeah i saw your dump, you had a few results on my ftp.

Stephen downloaded them about 10-20 mins ago so give it an hr or two and it should be good.
