DPAD: Lost a cruncher :(

I lost the fastest machine I had on the DPAD project. My work, PIII-1.0m🙁 I usually leave it on over the weekend with the A/C running to keep my office (and the computers) cool. When I went to the laptop, I had a black screen with the ominous phase "Unable to find Hard Disk 0!" I rebooted and the machine started up fine into XP, ran a CHKDSK, and all was well. I immediately transmitted my DPAD results, backed up all my data to a network server, and used the machine normally for the rest of the morning. Around 2:00, I was responding to an email and **click, **click **CLICK then nothing. Pulled out the IBM Travelstar and it was scorching hot!

I still have 1 running DPAD full time and 1 part time. Hopefully I can get the Dell Laptop up and running again!

Terrible.......................

What are your plans? Could you use (on DPAD) an XP2400/A7N266VM and get back to business? Memory and all accessories would be on you, of course. Some assembly required, no batteries (except CMOS) included.

I hope to get the company to replace the HDD in the lappy ASAP. I have a PC I will "assimilate" until the laptop is up and running again (it's already running SETI.)
