BlackMountainCow, I suggest if regular and utterly reliable stats are that important to you, you find another project. One like Folding/SETI@Home or similar that has more staff (i.e. more than one) and hence the resources to keep things running 24/7.

Well, what more to say? I did what he suggested. ;)

I am going to switch over to D2OL. The new version problems has really affected my interest in this project. Since we are well ahead of the other teams, I am going to concentrate my computing power to some other projects.

you did the right thing. if hes going to be an a$$hole to you, take your cpu cycles elsewhere. kudos for you actually having the balls to call him out and question the major issues with this project! maybe the problem isnt the contributors....maybe it starts at the top. i mean to bitch about staffing is weak! if you need help or need servers then ask someone to friggin help, dont take the weight of the world on your shoulders and try to be superman. this project is thoroughly pissing me off! ive bitched before but im tired of losing points, having points not counted or sometimes not even showing up on the f'ing stats page at all :| this dude doesnt seem to understand that people are fanatics about stats and about organization and when you display the lack of fundamental understanding of your contributors then you are going to start losing people. i mean, dont get me wrong, i enjoy this project but $hit like that said to you really pisses me off when all you wanted were answers and were IGNORED for days on his own message board! :| im just a peon in this project and i doubt if i left it would matter, but this crap is getting tiresome!

I agree with all the complaints also........I've just started to have other problems with Dpad also so I'm going to Lifemapper today. I may come back depending on if problems get fixed or not.

This is why there aren't more distributed networking projects that invite public users. There are probably hundreds of scientific projects that could really use the CPU horsepower that a team like TA could toss their way, but it is hard hard hard to build the infrastructure to support the statistics and reliability that people want.

I wouldn't do it, ever. I'm sure there are times Stephen wishes he had never opened DPAD up for public participation.

I am certain that Stephen understands that people are fanatics about stats, he just hopes they are fanatics about the DPAD project more than just stats.

1. I'm not so sure he understands how crazy people are about stats.
2. Hoping they people are more interested in the science than the stats is a lot to hope for IMHO ;)
