I was also looking at a new build. This new Conroe wrinkle has me waiting. I may wait to see how AMD answers Intel's latest news. Then again, I know that a near top of the line AMD 64x2 would keep me happy for over a year, so if a good sale pops up I'll forget all about Conroe.

Assimilator, read the Anandtech benchmarks of the new Intel Conroe processor. They've done something to the internal architecture to improve performance over older Prescotts and even Core Duo processors. I haven't seen details on what was changed, but perhaps they borrowed some of the ideas AMD used to leapfrog the Pentium 4 chips.

I am looking for a replacement Video Editing box (and DPAD cruncher) so I watch with great interest for Performance/Price ratio.
