DP55WB thermal trip

Hello all,

I am trying to get my i5-750 (first generation) together with a Intel-DP55WB board to get working. I used to use a Cooler Master 212+ cooler but it became really hard to work with, so I changed over to a stock-type CM cooler:

I didn't know how to install this - so I used the backplate left over from the CM 212+ to bolt this on. However, somewhere in the process, two of the mounting screws on the backplate got misplaced.

Anyway, I mounted it, and the contact seemed solid, so I started it up, but now it gives me the CPU thermal trip beep codes:

I am at a loss. I could try to replace the two missing bolting screw from the backplate to see if this will give me a better contact, but the fit really does seem quite snug.

I haven't yet tried to CMOS clear, I am not sure if this will help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hum! did you put thermal paste??? when working on it did you unplug something. and yes you should put the missing screws.

The cooler came with pre-applied paste. I also cleaned the old paste off the CPU with alcohol swabs.

I don't know if I can buy just the backplate or its screws. What is the cheapest cooler that comes with a backplate?

Also, when you mean disconnect, what do you mean? I checked the memory and even installed different memory DIMMs...

Thanks for the reply.

I found the backplate for the stock CM I bought, and installed the cooler properly like I should have in the first place. But I guess the BIOS was stuck in thinking that the fan was improperly installed, so it kept beeping.

Took the on-board battery out and re-installed it (guess I should have cleared CMOS, but don't know how on this board). Problem solved. Thanks again.
