DP35DP no LAN connection

Hi.
I am becoming a bit frustrated and hope you can perhaps help me. I'll keep it short as I can. when I first loaded windows XP I could not load SATA drivers because no floppy so I ran with IDE. System booted and I was able to connect to the internet through cable modem and Ethernet cable. I assumed that the PC would be faster using the SATA connection for the HD's so I called Windows then Intel and tried a USB floppy with no luck. Eventually I learned to make a slipstream disc with nlite and was able to install XP but now I can not connect to the cable modem. The Local Internet Connection option is gone under Internet Connections. I tried reinstalling with IDE ans SATA, With the Genuine Windows disc and the Nlite slipstream disc with the SATA drivers with no results. I suspect a Mobo problem because it handles the LAN connection does it not? I kept the initial install on a separate HD and it still has the LAN and connects. Any suggestions?
It took 2 weeks to research the system 1 hour to build it and now so far one months to install Windows!!

are you sure your network adaptor has not failed itself? go to system page in your control panel and see if there is an adaptor at all..you can also verify as well because if it is a failed device, in your bios, you will no longer see HW/Lan option which will exist if the device is available. i know this from the onboard lan device dying on my gigabyte p35 ds4..it simply disappeared and has not reappeared since. it maybe a big coincidence, but mine failed after i got a pci-e tv tuner card and installed it. poof! my lan device disappeared. i pulled all my cards in case it was a device conflict..no dice. flashed my bios..no dice. just gone. i ended up buying a wireless usb adaptor as i didn't want to eat my pci slots i need for my tuner cards and sound card.

OK...
I finally went to a hard drive that had an old IDE install and grabbed the LAN software from there. I still don't know how to do that but it worked well enough. The Mobo disk has everything on it and told me it loaded but it did not show when I looked for it afterwards. Network works. Now I see that I also have no sound device or drivers. Same deal. They are on the disk and claim to have installed bit do not exist when I check on them. It is the Sigmatel audio that is missing. I tried the newer software from Intel but no dice. One problem at a time I am going to get this to work someday!
