I know the downy ball is used for fabric softeners but can they be used for liquid detergent. Im sick of waiting for the water to fill. I was just thinking, just dont lock the cap and let the detergent slowly come out. Is it possible to just pour the detergent on the clothes without damage? I use woolite on my dark clothes.

i turn the water on...let it get a little bit of water, pour in the detergent, let that mix with what water is in there, and then put my clothes in. never stained anything, and works fine.

I start the washer and when it has two or three inches of water in the bottom I put the detergent in and then the clothes on top.

The downy ball will not dispense liquid until the spin cycle therefore defeating the purpose of placing detergent in it.

How does the Downy fabric-softener ball work?

Thats why I said to leave the cap unlocked. In doing that, i hope to have it slowly pour out during the washing.

I use powder for the whites and clothes I don't care about. For the dark clothes that I want to prevent from fading I use woolite. It slows down fading. if i pour in the detergent before I even start the machine wont it drain in the holes?
