Downside to setting HD's to cable select?

I picked up a bunch of mobile racks (removeable IDE HD's cases) from compgeek cheap, and I'm now figuring out how to set up my HD's to use it effectively. My thinking is to have a Linux HD, a primary HD, and a backup for the primary and I'd drop in the HD that I want to use whenever I want to use that drive. I was trying to think of the easiest way to jumper them (since once they are in the mobile rack you have to remove them from the case to change jumper settings) and "cable select" seemed like the best choice.

Are there any downsides to "cable select"? I don't see some manufacturers even putting the jumper settings for "cable select" on the sticker on the top of the drive, so I started to wonder why the setting seems to be secret on some drives (for example my new WD 1000BB drive).
