Downpipe, HUH?

Whats a downpipe? (Cars) My friend kept referring to it and said it hooked into the exhaust and I asked him if it was the exhaust manifold and he said no... So WTH is it?

Goes down from the manifold to the pipes that carry the exhaust all the way back.

No a downpipe is part of a turbo system.... A downpipe helps the exhaust system flow better and allows the turbo to spool up quicker.... /END of thread

Wow you guys. Downpipe goes from the end of the exhaust manifold to the cat, then theres the cat-back exhaust system. It is synonomous with N/A And FI cars.

There is also often an uppipe in turbo ssytems that goes from the O2's to the downpipe.
