Downloads not showing up on browser

For some reason my downloads aren't showing up. That happens in both FF and IE. After i click the download link, the download page just hangs "loading" and apparently the download starts on the background without my consent. If i wait a bit the download box will show up and ask me where i want to save the file. It wasn't like this a few days ago.

I am using Vista 64.

What could be causing this?
