Downloads kill router. This is a first

I've uncovered the oddest of bugs. I keep an eye on my ping time while playing EverQuest and it's usually in to 50ms range.

Then I started some downloads from Rapidshare in the background and the ping times went to 1900ms. WTF? I did a speed test, using a target in SF where I live, and got this:

After a power cycle of the router, I got this.

EQ also returned to normal. I have Comcast with Blast, for 20 megabits.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening? My router is a Cisco/Linksys WRT310N V2.

Also what brand and model router are you using as well?

Like I said, Cisco/Linksys WRT310N V2.

I'm running Windows 7.

I did some further Googling and it seems this is a common ailment of this router. I may have no alternative but to ditch it.

Try updating to the latest firmware. Or conversely, downgrading to an earlier firmware. Make sure you reset all of the settings to factory defaults and then reconfigure them.

If that doesn't work, try to RMA it. Good luck!

Are you saying you get bad performance even after your downloads have completed?
I have a friend who went from a linksys to one of the Gaming router D-link and it fixed him right up.
