Downloads auto open

GoldFiles

Senior member
When I click on a download link, the file will auto open, not "save as". I know i can right click and choose "save as", but that is a hassle.

Anyone know where the option to turn off auto open is? I want to save my downloads, not open.

Thanks

If its IE:

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Check the box for "Confirm open after download.

Gleaned from usenet. This has happened to me also and in my case I attribute it to security updates.

Probably Firefox as Firefox defaults to it... in that case go to Tools>>Options/Downloads Tab/ Aske me where to save file.
