Downloading speeds ?

Hi im running a network of 2 pc's 1 wired 1 wireless through a netgear dg834g V3 both are 10/100, i dont know much about this but im only getting 60kb/ps and upload speeds of 30kb/ps when using a torrent downloader,ive done internet speed tests coming back as 0.25mps yet im subscribed for 2-4mps i feel as if im being ripped off by aol.I have had line tests done reporting no faults my point is 6-8 miles away and i done some checking to find there is a closer exchange point at 3 miles away, surely im missing something here? (dont say a brain im learning) "SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!"

done a speed test confirming upto 512kpbs and yet my router status confirms 576kpbs download stream and upload stream is 288kpbs

If you haven't, throttle your upload speeds way back in your BT program to almost nothing. Uploads maxing out will kill your download speed.

This is where you lose me ^^ throttle ? bt program? how would one go about doing this? im a fast learner

BT = BitTorrent, the software you're using to connect to peers/trackers. is it running when you're performing your speed tests?

No sorry i never tested while running a bit torrent because the computer hangs up and dies

So open your BT program, find the settings somewhere where you can put in a limit on the upload speed. Put in a small number (10-15 to start). If your upload is allowed to go to max capacity it will kill your entire connection.

That was like us, we have 1.5mbs down/256kb up. We would run a torrent and get 20 down 35 up at the most. Then we limited our upload speed to 18, now we download at 990kb easy.

Wilds computer died..earlier this day so im having to tell you that he has tried the settings that you ask him to changed and he has seen a significant increase in downloading speeds of upto 5599 and he says to thankyou for your help and to all who replied
