downloading/saving email via FTP

Hi all,

A friend of mine wants me to backup and save her email. She checks it with pine (telnet) or webmail, and leaves mail on the server, so it's all there on the University server right now.

I can download all of this via FTP to my computer, i believe. What would her email messages download as, and how would i open them? The idea is to save them all in some readable text format on a CD. What would the simplest way be of accomplishing this? She has a lot of mail, so copy-pasting it out of the question...

Thanks,

Dave.

the "mbox" file in her home directory should have read mail, /var/mail/username or /var/spool/mail/username should have unread mail, there might be some stuff in the "Mail" directory in her home directory, but I don't know much about pine so I can't really say.

Have you checked to see if you can just use a mail client to read email. (Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, etc.)

Cuz then, bring the mail down, and presto!

I'm pretty sure the school has support for mail clients.
