What do you use for mp3 download software? How do you like or hate it?

I was using IMesh but I can't stand that Gator and adds stuff. Cleaned the hdd and I will not be putting it back.

I usually get my mp3 fix with Kazaa Lite, Newsgroups (I use Forte Inc's Agent and Newsfeeds.com), as well as IRC.

i like to download music from my cd's through my cd-rom drives as .wav files (does that really quickly) using CDex and then rip them to .ogg format (sounds MUCH better than .mp3) using ogg drop. Both programs are small, efficient, and are free, and i think, open source, or at least very open to the public. And ogg drop is just fun to use.

Sure I could rip direct to .ogg using CDex. But that takes longer, and I figure I am saving my drives from unnecessary abuse.

Did I mention that .ogg sounds better? Give it a whirl!

BTW I used to encode music at 192Kbps using the Lame encoder. Now i use ~128Kbps with ogg. High-hats, cymbals, chimes, and acoustic guitars sound lots better.

Is .ogg getting more popular now (or is it already)? I just recently saw some sound files of a new computer game that were .ogg files.

oog is better. Just a matter of time before everyone starts using it.

I normally just rip music off CD's I already have, but I occasionally use Kaaza lite to get something that I have on a LP in a closet.

does anyone know about the patch that makes it seem like you're sharing 10 gigs of stuff on direct connect?

I use a combination of newsgroups with XNews and Blubster. I can't believe no has mentioned Blubster. It has a really easy to use interface, P2P, and supports .ogg files. During installation I believe it asks you about installing some McAfee product but it won't install anything without asking. Well, it's like 2:00 AM so I better get some sleep for class later today.
