I've never used Linux before and don't really know anything about it. Wish me luck!!

I'm sure I'll be back with lots of questions. :)

Well, windows xp pushed me too it. :) I'll install it tonight and take it for a spin. I'm pretty anxious I've seen people talk about it for years.

Good luck. Just come back if/when you can't get something to work and we'll try to help out. I really think it would be a good idea to split the OS forum into Microsoft, Linux, Mac (maybe), and Others, that way people would be able to respond to questions quicker. That's just a though though . . . ;)

Good Luck buddy. I just download that pupply (2 x 650mb) file only two days ago... I told 8 hours for use 1 file. well more like 15 hours since i was doing it concurrently.

Word of advise, just make sure there enough hd space and no more pick up the phone (if your using a modem)

Why not use something like getright to help in downloading. All mirror sites are capable of resuming download. I have used getright to download 1.17GB of ISO yesterday and it took just over 90 minutes to download. Ummm.... I love cable modem!

From http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ftp.php3 . I have used multiple sites (upto four each) to download both the ISO images. The version I have downloaded was 7.2 . I was getting an average speed of 240KB/s (Bytes not bits) which I thought was too good to believe.

I have never created a CD from an ISO image and when Easy CD Creator completed copying (or making the disk) I was suprised to see the autorun execute. I was actually wondering what I will be doing with the ISO file.

I downloaded the iso's and burned them to cd's. Now I need to install my other hard drive because this one is almost full. :) I'll let everyone know how it goes in the next day or two.

Thanks for the links!

I just finished installinig Mandrake this morning. The installation was as smooth as silk! :)

So now where should I begin with? I'm 100% newbie so what where can I learn more about Linux? This first thing comes to my mind is optimization, where can I get more info?

Sorry for so many question, I'm a typical newbie. ;)
