Is there a way to increase the number of simultaneous downloads in IE 6??

There is no such limit.

However, some sites limit the maximum number of connections you can have to two or three active ones (http or ftp transfer)

I think that's what you mean. If you download from different sites, you can have 20 or 30 or more at the same time.

IE has a default limit of 2 downloads from one server. So if you download from multiple servers you can have many downoloads. The is a Microsoft released fix for this which requires you to ad 2 lines to your registry and set the number of downloads you can have from one server. I don't remember the actual URL but do a serch at microsoft.com and you should find it.
