Downloading files in PDF format

Why can't I view files downloaded in PDF format. I have Adobe Acrobat loaded. I have checked my property settings in I.E. but can't seem to locate the problem.

Which version of Adobe Reader are you using?

If you are using an older 4.X version, you might uninstall that and go to the new version 5.X.

Are you getting error messages or is Adobe not even trying to load when you try to open the .pdf file?

Are you getting a blank window with a small icon in the corner instead of the document?

If so, check your Adobe Reader preferences settings. I think it is in Options that you have to check "Display in Browser" or something similar.

I am using Adobe 5.0. Thanks for replying. KenGr replied with a possibility and I'll try his solution.

One obscure problem (it happened to me): Some applications install Reader even though it's still there. It is very easy to end up with two versions on the PC at once. I had both 4.0 and 5.0 installed (on purpose by IT group) and, even with the correct options selected in 5.0, it would not open PDFs until 4.0 was fixed. I deleted them all and reinstalled only 5.0. My IT people tell me that may cause a problem with reading some old documents but it hasn't happened yet.
