I actually just barely tried it out for 15 minutes or so the other night. It actually seemed pretty good. I'll have to play a bit more when I get a chance.

Don't turn all the graphics up. There are a couple features that really hurt performance for even the best of modern GPUs. Let it auto configure. If it's choppy, drop the graphics down. It still looks great at medium settings.

Heh, JBT, there's probably only another 2 mins of playtime to it.

Yeah its true at first I wasnt even going to try the demo with all the benchmarks for 7800gtxs being so slow but I found the game very good looking at 10x7 medium with a few high settings. I didnt get choppiness during firefights.

I concur.. medium settings does like almost nothing visually compared to maximum, and runs a lot smoother.
It runs 100% smooth for me while there's nothing going on.. but once I get into a firefight, it's choppy. o_O

I enjoyed it. 1600 x 1200 seemed to run quite well with all the eye cany turned up. In fact I've pre ordered it as I think I'm going to enjoy this one. :)

Graphics engine performance scalability toward mid-end systems (e.g. P4 3GHz, 9800pro) is abysmal.

Meh about the story. But then I've been meh about the X-Files and Japanese horror for some time now.

Difficulty... refreshingly greater challenge than HL2, Doom 3, even Far Cry. Even at normal difficulty the grunts are no pushovers (unlike the Combine wimps in HL2).

Weapons... now we're talking. One of the tastiest lineup of guns I've seen for a long time (concept similar to Far Cry's but with a futuristic edge). Watch for the HV Penetrator and Particle Weapon.

A64 3200 + 7800GT + 1GB ram here and the game runs smooth for the msot part, okay during firefights, and can get a little choppy when going past rooms with flickering lights or smoke seems like.
Game is friggin amazing though, its been a long time since i had a game make my heartbeat like this...the little girl is $#@ scarry!! but the grunts and guns and battle play is just...wow

Scary surprises? OF COURSE! ;)
I knew about one of them, but it still scared the hell out of me. There's something about DOING it rather than just seeing it happen. It helps to play it alone with the lights off, though.

How much of a performance increase do you think we will see with a dual core when the full version comes out?

I never had a single problem with the enemies in the game. You have bullet time for God's same just shoot them in the head. I had a much harder time with Farcry and even some more difficult moments in D3 (Nightmare).

Have they stated anything about multithreaded code because I doubt it is optimized for dual core when its not really optimized for single core even. :p
