Downloaded some Scrubs episodes in a strange format...

Each episode folder has "Xvid" in the name but when I go into the folder for each episode, there are like 15 files, each with an extension like .r06, .r07, 1 .SFV file. and 1 .rar file. Each of the files is 14.3 mbs in size...do I assemble these with some program first? Im downloading Xvid to see what I can do with it

hope this isnt vacation worthy...the show's on NBC 😛

yeah, winrar...you didn't recognize that? Just go to rarlabs.com and you'll find a program there that'll let you unpack the file. The SFV file is there as a security measure, as it checks that all RARs are present and the right size/CRC.

Install WinRAR and double click the .rar file.

Only one of them. Open any one of them, and the whole lot of them will behave like one RAR file.

btw, now that that's covered, could someone explain to me why that's useful? 😕

Amorphus, It's sort of like spanning a file across multiple floppies. Except you can split it to whatever size needed for the target storage media.

For example you could compress hundreds of related files, totaling several GBs in size, into one rar file but split it into 700MB parts to enable archiving onto CD.

It is/was also helpful when sending large files via attachment size limited email accounts or less than reliable dialup accounts.
