I downloaded what appears to be the latest version of the LAME MP3 encoder, 3.97 today. The file is lame-3.97.tar.gz. There are 295 files in this compressed file, and I extracted them but there's no LAME.EXE, which is the encoder itself. So, I'm still using 3.92. Did I do something wrong? TIA.

It sounds like you'd also have to compile it (make ftw). Nothing to sweat, I know I've downloaded the linux version of a popular cross-platform application many times and once you notice it, you hit yourself and look for the CGYWIN version ;).

Whatever it is, I deleted it and downloaded lame3.97.zip instead, the 3.97 Final version. It has Lame.exe, and it's now my encoder. I was using 3.92.

I use it with Total Recorder and EAC.
