Downloaded/Burned Windows XP Pro (Legal Copy from Microsoft ELMS) - How can i install it? [Fixed]

My school allows us to download Windows XP Pro for free through Microsoft's ELMS program.

The only problem is that the cd does not appear to be bootable. (Keep in mind im installing this on a new rig).

The way the download works is that i download the whole cd from their website (using VBOX installer)and it places it in a directory in which its supposed to install from. Instead of installing it, I burnt it to CD so that i can install it on a new computer.

Is there anyway to install what appears to be a non-bootable cd? (short of installing another os and installing from within it)?

Just using a win98 bootidsk will work. Just need to load cdrom drivers and your set. It speeds up the process using smrtdrv though.

Thanks for all the help guys...

I was actually able to find an iso image of XP on the ELMS site late last night. I didnt see it there the other day. Burnt it to cd and it booted fine.

Thanks again for the help though, i appreciate it 🙂

Elms is part of MSDNAA... Its available as a link directly from my college departments website...

Even if you don't think your school has it, I'd still recommend checking it out. I attend RIT (Rochester, NY), and the CompSci department was actually paying for the service without distributing the software, or even telling the students it was available. (Apparently, the person who's responsibility it was didn't /couldn't be bothered to find a way). I asked a professor about it, he informed me of the situation, and that we were registered with Microsoft, and offered to burn the CDs for me.

Anyways, it never hurts to ask =). And who knows, it's not that expensive (compared to software costs), perhaps you could convince your department.

I contacted them. My university is lame. they say we dont pay enough tuition to justify a program like that. I say, how about you wave some of those ghey useless gen eds and give me some software
