downloadeable suse linux distro??

Suse does not release iso images (except for the "run from cd" one) but you can do a ftp install over the net (I "highly" recommend a broadband connection) or you can download the directory tree to a hard disk, and install from there.

Don't try and download it from the Suse site (incredilbly slow!) but use one of the mirrors listed there.
Directions for an ftp install, or install from disk, are there as well.

if i d/l the directory tree, will it let me instal over the network froma windows machine or does it have to be a linux machine.

It will llet you install it off of a windows machine as long as you have the proper software installed on it. But remember, the directory tree is something like 5 gigs!

Unless you plan to install SuSE on multiple hosts in a LAN, don't do that. As n0cmonkey said, the SuSE tree weighs in at something around 5-6 GB. A typical network installation will fetch _only_ about 500 MB of necessary packages.

what's wrong with just d'ling it from here in an iso image???

Quoted from the SuSE section of linuxiso.org:
Description: SuSE is a popular distribution based out of Germany. The latest version isn't usually available as an ISO download, but they do offer a "live evaluation" version that runs completely off a CD.
