I'm looking for a good, stand-alone, offline, poker game, that I can play by myself, and a computer or two.

/me needs to brush up on his poker skills with his mates.

I just started playing poker, and sometimes the hands get confusing and I place the wrong bets :(.

What do you guys use/recommend?

Partypoker.com is very good. I downloaded and installed their client. It's spyware free and the gaming experience is top notch.

I don't think you can launch it while the computer is offline though, can you?

You can get the PSP one or the PS2 one :p

Or the WPT one for the PC?

The problem is the amount of odds and variety become p!ss poor with a downloadable one unless the game has lots of different outcomes etc = bigger install size.

I don't mind that. As long as it is of a decent variety. I need something for the PC though.

What's the WPT one like, any good?

How are you brushing up your "poker skills" if you're playing against a computer for fake money? The only poker skills worth a damn are the ability to read your opponents and the ability to hide your own tendencies. All you're going to be doing is flipping cards. That's as much a workout of poker skills as playing Old Maid is. The only way to learn to play poker is to play REAL poker.

Check out PokerAcademy or Wilson's Turbo Poker.

Neither is cheap, but they're both good.

[EDIT]Now that I think about it Poker Academy has a non pro version that is pretty cheap. The Pro version is the pricey one (and the one I have).

I meant, in the sense that I don't know the rankings of the cards, and what to expect from other players' hands, and which ones would be higher, if you know what I mean.

Did someone call my name? ;)

I've tried some of the packages out there, and there's a pretty wide range of quality. My personal favorite has to be DD Tournament Poker (ddpoker.com). It does an excellent job of simulating other players of different styles and skill levels. You can determine what kind things you want to learn and practice against etc.
