downloadable music

Ok, i guess this is where this question goes.

I love music.
When hubby and I became disabled, we lost our home and belongings, due to not being able to 'move' our stuff to another place. so we left it all behind, told friends/neighbors to come get what they want.

So...
I would like to build my music library back up again. as I do so love music.

Where is the best place to go to do this that wont fill my pc full of spyware, bad recordings, virus..etc.

To avoid all things bad, you should only purchase music from reputable sites like Amazon, iTunes, Walmart, etc. Look for music that doesn't have any DRM restrictions and be sure you're actually purchasing the file from the service and not "renting it" like some services offer. Amazon offers a DRM free service.

If you don't mind DRM you can get Ruckus if you have a valid .edu email address.

There are ways to remove it, but at that point it doesn't become legal (I don't think).

I highly recommend Amazon's MP3 store. They often have really good deals, have a great selection, and of course, no DRM.

lots of live music is available for free, legally. i have total trust in these sources being safe.

downloading from etree and much of archive.org will require a bittorrent filesharing client. i suggest utorrent (pronounced micro-torrent). it's free, safe, easy and reliable.

Not sure how much music you purchased before, but if it ever averaged out to $15/month, then you might consider a Zunepass subscription.

...note that you don't actually own the music in this case and files will stop working if you cancel. Still though, a pretty good deal IMO.

Another Amazon user here; DRM-free content. There download manager is ok, sometimes my internet connection drops out a little and I have to contact Amazon by email so they can unlock the music I have not completely downloaded; this will not be a problem if you have a strong internet connection.

Also consider eMusic; however, they do not have all the latest "popular" music. It is a monthly fee, but you can cancel at any time with no fees; its actually a very good deal, unless all you listen to are the "top artists".

I personally have found a few below the deck artist ,at eMusic, that I very much enjoy.

http://clankrw.net/ has free bootlegs of their music. Good thing is that Metallica supports bootlegs (as explained in the site's front page), so it's quality music at a good "price"

When I first started, I used napster, and I didnt know it was not legal.. lol
I dont want to be illegal... because well.. what if it was me that was the artist?

I just dont like buying cds for a song or two I like ...
