Question Download this driver update through Win Update?

I have the following optional update available through Win Update.

Realtek - Net 7/5/2017 12:00 AM 10.19.705.2017.

Not sure how to tell if this is an actual updated or outdated driver. If it is outdated, why is it showing up in Windows Update?

Microsoft has a nasty ongoing history of associating the wrong hardware IDs with their driver updates, which is what causes updating them through Windows update to be such a crapshoot.

You should be able to see the installed device driver version information in Device Manager -- go to the network adapter category, open it, right-click on the Realtek network adapter, then hit the Driver button.

That driver software is indeed antiquated as one can tell from the file date.
If you found it in the driver optional folder then you can forget it.
