Check this out: I top out a about 24k connection (sometimes as low as 9.6k)despite an Award 56k modem because of the ancient switching station, and I'm 15 miles from on bad T-phone wires. About 2.5k average download speed on a good day. DSL is coming soon although I heard somewhere that I have to be within a 5-10 mile radius? Anyone want to confirm that for me though?

Normally it is around 4.9 k/s with Diamond Supra Express 56i Pro. It hardly ever falls below that but sometimes a get full downloads at 7-8k/s.

Work: 625Mbps OC12 - Avg 500K-750k/s D/U
School: 45Mbps T3 - Avg 200k-350k/s D/U

I live @ those two places... Work is running on ATM and School is running Fast Ethernet...

Reality check for the OC-whatever people.
Typical downloads
26400-28.8 = 2.5 to 3.5k sec
56k modem connection = 6k MAX sec
t1 = normally 120ksec max somtimes with video feeds 300ksec max
t3 = normally 120ksec max somtimes with video feeds 300ksec max
oc-whatever = normally 120ksec max somtimes with video feeds 300ksec max
fiber whatever = normally 120ksec max somtimes with video feeds 300ksec max

god giving you speed of light = normally 120ksec max somtimes with video feeds 300ksec max

Now if we notice something here at t1 things dont get faster. Anyone want to guess why?
Cause the internet wont give it to you faster than that. No site is going to allow or have equip for feeds any faster. It hurts them to do so.

Im an isp/host btw and trust me when you see all of the super connected people spouting god aweful fast downloads. 300k is RARE.
Normally the average FAST site feeds 60k a sec. Microsoft.com will feed 50 to 60k a sec on a good non new released product day.
Sometimes microsoft has problems feeding past 30k a sec.

im sorry to dissapoint Crowz but I have pulled 534k from Netscape.com on a Mac w/ OS9x on the oc12, they do have a more refined tcp/ip stack than a windows system but it still disproves your theroy... @ the t3 I have pulled (from napster) mp3's (in quantity, 5 or more at once) at a sustained rate of 175+ for each mp3.

Yeah crowz, ho do I put this? Your wrong. Thats the easiest way. A great deal of the speed of the data-transfer has to do with you who download from. I have gottem 7 mbps downloads from other folks here in town that are on my RR cable network - likewise I have gotten just as fast downloads from Canadian servers - it all depends on where you download from. And remember, Cable has a max limit of 10 mbps or 100 mbps if you hav a 100 mbps network card.

Just downloaded netscape 6 to test the speed of netscape.com
70.4k a sec max.
Went and pull a online movie feed 320ksec spike to max so they are even faster than netscape.
hmmmmmmm

Cable can achieve faster downloads IF the file you want is in the cache of the cable provider.
All cable providers use a caching server.

Yeah so you think that just becuase the bandwidth of your particular connection coming from a particular router means that everyone else gets the same thing. Wow, your pretty narrow viewed.

Heh. whatever you say, I have FTP'd stuff client to client (IP to IP) at 7 mbps, not mind you from me to the ISP, but from client to client.

and look when you are trying to DL... Also it depends on circumstances.. traffic on your leg, ammound ot traffic on your server, and various other variables. But since you presume thatr 70k is the limit from netscape.. let me go DL and see what happnes... .
