I got a PIII 450 machine connected to a university 10MBps LAN and when I d/l a zip or a RAR file, sometimes when I try to uncompress it, it gives me errors like bad checksum, and stuff like that. Especially with larger files 25MB+. It's not the file, because I download it again and sometimes it works.

Could the problems be associated with my Ethernet card?? I have a Acer lan card.

I have no clue what's happening and I would appreciate some professional help.

Thank You.

It might be related to your lan cards drivers. I while back I was hosting a lan party and we had HUGE problems with filecopying and multiplayer instability. After troubleshooting we narrowed it down to 3 PC's being unable to connect and/or being disconnected at odd times from the multiplayer sessions. And they were getting strange error messages when copying larger files from other computers.

All these PC's where using the same chipset on their netcards - The realtek 8029AS. Win 98 have built-in drivres for this card, but for some reason they do not work properly (I think this only applies for the original win98 relaese - not win98se). Downloading an updated driver form realteks homepage solved the problems.

You might have a similar problem. Have you instsalled the latest driver for you ethernetcard or did you use windows built-in driver? If so, try to update to the latest driver from Acer's website.
