Hi,

My great aunt/uncle have a Dell PC, which had Norton Internet Security 2005 on it from the factory, and they purchased a year's subscription once the 3 months free ran out.

When I went there last night, it was causing errors, which the answers I found on their Knowledge Base didn't solve, so the only course of action was to uninstall it, after 2 hours of trying various things.

However, as it was pre-installed, we don't have the CD. Symantec's web site is as useful as a chocolate teapot, and the links I found to download it wouldn't allow us in with the order number/password/email address they used to register it.

Does anyone know where I can legally download a copy of NIS2005, so they can use their current subscription until it runs out?

Thanks in advance!

Norton is way worse than no antivirus at all. It uses more resources, causes more problems, and is harder to remove than most viruses. I'd tell them to give up on their subscription and use a free AV in combination with free antispyware tools and the SP2 firewall.

If you absolutely _must_ download Norton, remember it is not illegal to download it if you already own it, so just get the torrent.

Second vote for Norton being the biggest ripoff around, I prefer AVG and AdAware to it any day

Stay away from Norton. That crap will break your computer. I've seen norton do everything from prevent people from connecting their email to write web sites you visit. It will even flat out not allow you to connect to the internet.

Stay way from norton. Stay far far way.

Preinstalled should have came with the CD as well... i know my Dell computers did. You can try checking the Dell site to see if they have it too.

Anyways, if you can't find it... i say go with Kerio. It's free and much better.

1) As several others have stated, Norton is evil. Uninstall it and save yourself headaches and a slow pc.

2) Call Dell and request the ALL of the cd's that were not shipped with the computer.

3) Kaspersky Personal v5 + cable/dsl router + common sense = bliss
